First Day of First Grade

Starting first grade was met with excitement and a little bit of reluctance for Aly.  Her reluctance stemmed from all day school.  Kindergarten was 2.5 hours and she took the bus to school and was picked up after school.  First grade is 6 and a quarter hours and includes lunch, recess every day, specials and the bus both ways.   The fatigue slammed her the first day as her fears of the longer day manifested.  "I hate first grade.  I'm not signing up for school next year if it means a longer day!", she cried.   But after a good night's sleep, her excitement returned.  Her fatigue has been greater than we have ever seen but she's rolling with it.  She's been pretty quiet about school itself but there's a spark in her eye as she heads off each morning.

Waiting for the bus

The bus stop.  Aly's friendships with the other two first graders in our neighborhood are growing (the two girls dressed alike on the left).  She even went so far as to ask for the outfit that they were wearing but then backed off when she realized that meant wearing a skirt ;)
